Friday I caught Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese's latest collaboration "Shutter Island." I was not blown away by it, but I did not think it was a terrible movie either. Since I have not read the novel on which it is based, I'm at a bit of a disadvantage to comment on whether it was a faithful adaptation; however as a thriller it kept me guessing for most of the film.

Ah, it's group night on American Idol. Finally. Yes, I'm a sucker for group night. There's nothing quite like seeing a bunch of marginally talented people acting they're on the same plane as Lady Gaga and quickly turning on each other like a pack of self-absorbed jackals. This is the only real "reality show" drama we get all year on this show, and it's great fun every year.

I returned to the movies last week to see Mel Gibson's thriller "Edge of Darkness." A large part of me was anxious to see it since I knew Gibson plays a Boston cop whose daughter is murdered in front of him. As Gibson's character, Detective Thomas Craven, launches his own investigation into his daughter's untimely demise, he starts unraveling threads to a conspiracy involving big business and government in Massachusetts.

During all the NBC internet chatter this week, I couldn't wait for new episodes of scripted comedy. The Thursday lineup was loaded with guest stars, none bigger than Jack Black's appearance on Community, which says one if not two things: the show is underperforming ratings-wise, and A-list actors want to be a part of a comedy they enjoy watching.

The question is not how the Kung Fu Panda would interact with the tight ensemble cast, but how the show's producers would buck the tired more...

Last Monday I caught "Sherlock Holmes" in the theater, which turned out to be a very entertaining movie. Guy Ritchie presents a fresh take on Sherlock Holmes, portraying him as more of a cocky savant than a refined gentleman, but with Robert Downey Jr. playing Holmes, it works like a charm.

NEW YORK (AP) — Diane Sawyer says this week is her last as co-anchor of ABC's "Good Morning America" as she prepares to replace Charles Gibson on the network's "World News."

Gibson is retiring. His last broadcast as anchor on "World News" will be Dec. 18. Sawyer starts Dec. 21.

The 63-year-old Sawyer has been on "GMA" for 10 years. She says: "I've calculated — 2,881 shows. Roughly."
