LONDON (AP) — Elton John says he has been helping American rapper Eminen fight drug problems for more than a year.
John says Eminem is succeeding in his well-publicized battle against substance abuse.
John told BBC Radio Saturday that as a recovered drug abuser he is happy to help people if they want the assistance but drugs make people so cocky and arrogant that they often reject help.

The Thriller hit-maker passed away in June after suffering a cardiac arrest, believed to be linked to a high dose of surgical-strength anesthetic Propofol. Reports suggest the singer spent years battling an addiction to prescription drugs before his habit ended in tragedy.

DETROIT (AP) — Apple Inc. and the music publisher for Eminem have settled a lawsuit over the digital downloading rights to many of the Detroit rapper’s songs.
Eight Mile Style attorney Richard Busch said Friday that the deal was reached late Thursday. He declined to disclose details of the settlement.

NEW YORK (AP) — Eminem was never a part of Def Jam Records, but the rapper is going to be part of the celebration when the legendary label is honored by VH1.
Eminem will join Mary J. Blige, DMX, Public Enemy, Kid Rock, the Roots and more when the label is feted at the network’s sixth annual Hip Hop Honors.
Def Jam is celebrating 25 years.
NEW YORK (AP) — Eminem’s new album, “Relapse,” has sold more copies in its first week of release than any other album this year.
Nielsen SoundScan says the Detroit rapper’s first album in nearly five years sold 608,000 copies.
“Relapse” is Eminem’s fifth straight No. 1 album. His last disc, 2004’s “Encore,” sold 711,000 in its first week — though that was only across four days. It went on to sell 5.1 million copies.

A bloody TV commercial promoting Eminem’s new album Relapse has been banned from the air after it was deemed “too gory” for U.S. viewers.
The advertisement features scenes showing a maniacal-looking Eminem submerged in a bathtub full of blood interspersed with shots of severed limbs.
However, the horror-inspired clip has been barred by TV censors and will not be shown on the small screen, according to a post on the rapper’s official website.

DETROIT (AP) — Eminem is planning a free show in the Detroit area on the same day his album “Relapse” is released.
He announced plans for Tuesday’s show on his MySpace page. Fans lined up for tickets Monday morning at Record Time in the Detroit suburb of Roseville. The tickets were to be given away later in the day.
The announcement says DJ Jazzy Jeff will be a special guest at the show.
