MIAMI (AP) — Emilio and Gloria Estefan and other celebrities gathered to record a Spanish-language version of “We are the World” on Friday to raise money for Haiti earthquake victims.

Emilio Estefan said he was talking with Quincy Jones about the importance of the Spanish market when the idea developed.

Ke$ha breaks pop song airplay record (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Billboard) – A week after Lady Gaga set a milestone on Billboard's Pop Songs radio airplay chart, Ke$ha has rewritten the record.

Last week, Lady Gaga's “Bad Romance” made chart history for logging the most weekly plays in the 17-year archives of the tally, registering 10,859 plays in the tracking week of January 11-17, according to Nielsen BDS.

Record labels sue over use of songs on “Ellen” show (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – Four of the world's biggest recording companies have sued the producers of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” accusing them of using songs without permission.

On the popular daytime program, which averages about 3 million viewers daily, newly named “American Idol” judge and show host DeGeneres dances to popular tunes selected by a deejay.

Record by Japan’s next leader hot on net auction (Reuters)

TOKYO (Reuters) – Japan's next leader, Yukio Hatoyama, probably never thought a song he recorded 20 years ago would one day fetch a pretty penny on online auction sites.

The vinyl single, “Take Heart - Fly, Dove of Peace”, recorded in 1988 when Hatoyama was first elected to parliament, recently sold for 35,000 yen ($375) in an online auction, a Japanese tabloid reported.

Summer Sets Box Office Record With Help From Transformers, Potter & More2009 has become the highest-grossing summer ever at the domestic box office, according to Variety.com.

Through August. 30, summer box office revenues were $4.17 billion, compared to $4.16 billion for summer 2007, the previous record holder. Labor Day weekend should add another $100 million or more to the total tally, meaning the summer would be up at least 3 percent in grosses over 2007.
