Folk-rocker Vic Chesnutt, 45, dies in Georgia

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Vic Chesnutt, the folk-rocker whose sometimes dark reflections on life were influenced in part by a car wreck that left him paralyzed, has died. He was 45.

Family friend Christina Stuckey, who answered the phone at Chesnutt’s home, confirmed the death to The Associated Press. Chesnutt’s record label, Constellation Records, said in a statement on its Web site that Chesnutt died on Christmas

PARIS (Reuters) – Veteran French rocker Johnny Hallyday has been released from a Los Angeles hospital where he underwent a back operation earlier this month, his publicists said on Wednesday.

“The doctors judged that Johnny Hallyday's current state of health has improved and justifies a return home to his family while he continues to receive the medical treatment he needs,” they said in a statement.

BRISBANE, Australia (Billboard) – Guitarist Mick Cocks, a founding member of Australian hard rock bandRose Tattoo, died in a Sydney hospital on Tuesday after a battle with liver cancer. His age was not known.

PARIS (AP) — Johnny Hallyday’s press relations office says the French rocker has emerged from a medically induced coma he had been in since last week.

In an e-mail, the Paris-based 96b press relations office said doctors at L.A.’s Cedars Sinai hospital woke Hallyday up on Monday.

PARIS (Reuters) – Veteran French rocker Johnny Hallyday has had surgery in Los Angeles, where he was admitted to the Cedars-Sinai hospital on Monday, his publicists said on Thursday.

Hallyday, one of France's most popular entertainers in a career spanning almost 50 years, has been suffering health problems recently and underwent surgery in France last month for a herniated disc.

NYT: Jim Carroll, poet and punk rocker, dead at 60

NEW YORK (AP) — Jim Carroll, the poet and punk rocker who wrote “The Basketball Diaries,” died Friday. He was 60.

He died from a heart attack at his home in Manhattan, his ex-wife Rosemary Carroll told the New York Times.

In the 1970s, Carroll was a fixture of the burgeoning downtown New York art scene, where he mixed with artists such as Andy Warhol, Patti Smith, Larry Rivers and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Rocker Juanes’ wife gives birth to son in Miami (AP)

MIAMI – Less than a week before his “Peace Without Borders” concert in Havana, Colombian rocker Juanes and his wife, Karen, welcomed their first son over the weekend.

The singer announced on his Twitter page Saturday that his wife had given birth to the couple’s third child, a boy, Dante, in Miami.

Juanes, 37, posted in Spanish: “Dante was born very well, healthy and beautiful! Thank God for this blessing!”
