The Knack lead singer Doug Fieger, 57, dies (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters Life!) – The Knack's lead singer Doug Fieger, who co-wrote the 1979 hit song “My Sharona,” died on Sunday, aged 57, after battling lung cancer for six years.

His family said in a statement that Fieger passed away at his home in Woodland Hills, California, after outliving his doctors' prognoses “for many, many years.”

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Doug Fieger, leader of the power pop band The Knack who sang on the 1979 hit “My Sharona,” died Sunday. He was 57.

Fieger, a Detroit-area native, died at his home in Woodland Hills near Los Angeles after battling cancer, according to The Knack’s manager, Jake Hooker.

Fieger formed The Knack in Los Angeles 1978, and the group quickly became a staple of Sunset Strip

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — Authorities in north Louisiana say two people in a pickup truck were killed when the truck ran head-on into a tour bus carrying members of country singer Trace Adkins‘ band.

Cindy Chadwick of the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office says five band members were treated for minor injuries in the Saturday morning accident.

Adkins was not on the bus. Chadwick says he drove to the scene after

Singer Etta James still hospitalized in California

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Etta James’ manager said the R&B singer remains hospitalized in Southern California as she recovers from sepsis, an infection.

Lupe De Leon said Monday that James is stable and he doesn’t know when the 72-year-old singer will be released from the Riverside Community Hospital.

US country singer Charlie Daniels suffers stroke

DURANGO, Colo. (AP) — Fiddler-guitarist Charlie Daniels is recovering after suffering a mild stroke while snowmobiling in Colorado, his spokeswoman said Wednesday.

Daniels, 73, suffered the stroke Friday and was treated at a hospital in Durango, 230 miles southwest of Denver, spokeswoman Paula Szeigis said. He then was airlifted to a Denver hospital and released on Sunday.

Paralyzed singer Vic Chesnutt dies after overdose (Reuters)

NEW YORK (Billboard) – Vic Chesnutt, a paralyzed singer-songwriter whose painful and poignant songs caught the attention of R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, has died after an apparent suicide attempt. He was 45.

Chesnutt died at a hospital his hometown of Athens, Ga., on Christmas Day, two days after taking an overdose of muscle relaxants.
